Annual Program Implementation Plan (PIP) process facilitates the planning, approval and allocation of budgets of various programmes under the National Health Mission (NHM). The monitoring of PIPs also enables measurement of physical and financial progress made by states against the approved PIPs. PIPs help in standardizing and institutionalizing the planning and implementation of programmes under NHM funding.
PIP process under the erstwhile National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), now NHM, began as a simple exercise in 2005. Over the years, the programme (NHM) has expanded multi-fold and increased in complexity. With increased funding, introduction of new programmes and strategies, the PIP process including appraisal and allocation has become complex, cumbersome and time consuming.
The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), Govt. of India has therefore decided to use the services of National Informatics Centre (NIC) to develop software for streamlining and simplifying the planning process of NHM.
